In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team based in Vijayawada confiscated approximately 1,300 kilograms of ganja. It was estimated to be worth ₹2.6 crore. The seizure was from a goods transport vehicle near Ramavarappadu. Acting on a tip-off regarding illegal drug movement, officials intercepted the truck at Ramavarappadu Ring Road. They discovered 561 packets of the contraband concealed in a hidden compartment.
The truck was reportedly traveling from Sukma in Chhattisgarh to Salem in Tamil Nadu. The DRI sleuths arrested two suspects under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The suspects have been placed in judicial remand.
Subsequent to the seizure, authorities tracked down and detained the individual believed to be the mastermind behind the smuggling network near Salem. He is said to have admitted to organising the illicit transport of ganja. An investigation is underway.
