Strategic Discussions Begin in the Capital
Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh met senior officials of GMR Group in New Delhi to accelerate Andhra Pradesh’s aviation development plans. GMR, known worldwide for building and managing airports, presented its ideas for the proposed Aviation Education City near Visakhapatnam. Lokesh reviewed the proposal and offered further inputs to refine the project.

Blueprint for India’s First Aviation EduCity Finalized
Both teams discussed the master plan in detail and finalized the complete development strategy for the EduCity. They decided to build the project in partnership with GMR Airports, ensuring international standards in training and infrastructure. Moreover, Lokesh highlighted the state’s commitment to creating a strong aviation ecosystem.
A Major Hub for Aviation, Aerospace, and Defense Training
The upcoming Aviation EduCity will transform the Visakhapatnam region into a training and education hub for aviation, aerospace, and defense sectors. To strengthen this vision, the government plans to collaborate with international universities known for specialized aviation programs. Additionally, the EduCity will support advanced training in pilot studies, aircraft maintenance, drone technology, airport management, and defense operations.
Transformational Growth for North Andhra Region
Lokesh explained that the EduCity will act as a game changer for the North Andhra region. It will attract global partnerships, create high-skilled jobs, and expand the Andhra Pradesh Aviation Cluster at a faster pace. Furthermore, the project will boost regional development around Visakhapatnam by improving industry readiness and innovation opportunities.
Leaders and Officials Join the Meeting
Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu also attended the meeting, strengthening the coordination between the state and the Centre. Along with him, senior GMR officials SGK Kishore, C. Prasanna, and Piyush Naidu participated and assured their full support for the project’s execution.
