A sensational case has surfaced from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, where a 19-year-old woman allegedly married eight men in quick succession and cheated them under the pretext of marriage. The matter came to light after several victims approached the police with evidence.
The woman has been identified as Muthireddy Vani, a resident of Karji Veedhi in Ichchapuram town. According to complaints, Vani, along with her aunt Empada Sandhya, allegedly targeted unmarried men and convinced them to marry her. Soon after the wedding, she would reportedly disappear with cash, clothes, and other valuables.
Marriage Fraud Allegations
Police said Vani allegedly selected men who were eager to marry and demanded advance dowry amounts before the wedding. Within a few days of the marriage, she would leave without informing the husband or his family. Investigators claim this pattern repeated several times over the past few years.
In a recent case, Vani reportedly married a man from Karnataka at Durga Devi temple in Sompeta. After the wedding, she travelled with him towards Karnataka. However, during the journey, she allegedly got down at Vizianagaram railway station, citing a restroom break, and never returned.
Victims Trace the Truth
When the groom and his family searched for her, they allegedly found that she had returned to her aunt’s house in Ichchapuram. By then, the groom’s family had already given ₹1 lakh as dowry, along with money for clothes and wedding expenses. When they confronted the aunt, she reportedly promised to return the money but later disappeared.
Shocked by the revelations, two victims, Nagi Reddy and Keshava Reddy, lodged a complaint at Ichchapuram police station. They also submitted photos and videos as proof, claiming Vani had married at least eight men.
Police Investigation Underway
Based on the complaint, Ichchapuram police have launched an investigation. Officials said Vani’s mother died when she was young, and her father allegedly did not take responsibility for her upbringing. Her aunt reportedly played a key role in arranging the marriages.
Police noted that earlier incidents may not have reached authorities as Vani was a minor at the time. Now that she is 19, the complaints have surfaced formally. Further investigation is underway to identify all victims and determine legal action.
