North Korean leader Kim Jong Un again drew global attention by appearing with his daughter Ju-ye. This appearance has renewed speculation about a future successor.
On New Year’s Eve 2026, Kim visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang. He attended the event along with his family. Importantly, this marked Ju-ye’s first visit to the sacred mausoleum.
Symbolic Appearance Sparks Succession Debate
During the ceremony, the Kim family stood in the front row. Kim Jong Un and Ri Sol Ju stood at the center. Ju-ye stood prominently beside them. As a result, analysts see this positioning as a strong political signal.
Usually, the regime reserves central positions for top leaders. Therefore, experts believe Kim wants to elevate his daughter’s public status. However, North Korea has not issued any official statement.
Ju-ye Gains Visibility at New Year Event
Later, Ju-ye appeared at the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Pyongyang. She sat next to her father throughout the event. Moreover, she wore a black leather coat, similar to Kim’s style.
After the countdown, Kim kissed her on the cheek. This rare gesture showed public affection. In recent months, Ju-ye has appeared more often at national events. For example, she attended missile tests and military ceremonies.
South Korea Watches Developments Closely
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Unification Ministry confirmed Ju-ye’s first visit to the mausoleum. Officials said they are closely monitoring her activities.
Ju-ye first appeared in public in 2022. Since then, her presence has steadily increased. Therefore, observers believe Kim Jong Un is carefully shaping future leadership perceptions.
