Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has deputed his son and state minister Nara Lokesh to Delhi to oversee the vice-presidential election scheduled for Tuesday. Lokesh will coordinate with Andhra Pradesh MPs and ensure their support for NDA nominee C.P. Radhakrishnan.
Lokesh is expected to leave for the capital on Monday and meet MPs from the TDP and Jana Sena by evening. He will brief them on the special voting procedure and supervise the process to make sure the NDA candidate secures their votes. He is also likely to hold talks with senior BJP leaders and Union ministers on issues concerning Andhra Pradesh.
The chief minister was originally slated to travel to Delhi himself but cancelled his plan to attend the Super Six Super Hit program in Anantapur on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party has tasked Rajya Sabha MP YV Subba Reddy with guiding its MPs in the election. The party has already pledged support for Radhakrishnan, and Reddy will direct members to follow suit.
No whip will be issued by any party in the election, which will be conducted through a secret ballot rather than electronic voting machines.
