As part of the vibrant Sankranthi festivities, pig competitions were held on Wednesday in Tadipatri town of Anantapur district, attracting large crowds and widespread attention. The traditional event added a unique flavor to the harvest festival celebrations and became a major highlight in the town.

The competitions took place at the Junior College Grounds in Tadipatri under the leadership of Municipal Chairman JC Prabhakar Reddy. From early morning, residents from Tadipatri and nearby villages gathered at the venue to witness the rare and entertaining contests. The event reflected the region’s cultural traditions and community spirit associated with Sankranthi.

Traditional Event Attracts Public Interest

Pig competitions are considered a traditional rural sport in parts of Andhra Pradesh, especially during festive seasons. In Tadipatri, the event generated excitement among people of all age groups. Participants showcased well-trained pigs, while spectators cheered enthusiastically as the competitions progressed.

Organisers ensured smooth conduct of the event by arranging proper facilities at the ground. The lively atmosphere, combined with festival celebrations, turned the venue into a hub of entertainment. Local residents described the competitions as both fun-filled and culturally significant, preserving age-old customs.

Cash Prizes Awarded to Winners

According to the organisers, cash prizes were awarded to pig owners based on performance. The first prize winner received Rs 20,000, the second prize Rs 15,000, and the third prize Rs 10,000. The prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of local leaders and enthusiastic spectators.

Municipal Chairman JC Prabhakar Reddy praised the organisers and participants for keeping traditional sports alive. He said such events help strengthen community bonding and bring people together during festivals like Sankranthi.

Sankranthi Celebrations in Full Swing

Sankranthi celebrations across Tadipatri included cultural programs, traditional games, and community feasts. The pig competitions added a distinctive attraction to the festival calendar this year. Many attendees took photos and videos, which quickly spread across social media, further increasing interest in the event.

Local authorities also ensured safety measures at the venue to manage the crowd effectively. The peaceful conduct of the competitions earned appreciation from residents and visitors alike.

Cultural Significance Remains Strong

Events like the Tadipatri pig competitions highlight the rich rural traditions of Andhra Pradesh. Despite changing times, such festivals continue to draw strong participation and public support.
