A major burglary incident during the Sankranthi festival has shocked residents of Hyderabad. Inter-state thieves targeted locked houses in Chengicherla colony after families left the city to celebrate the festival in their native places. The thefts took place in the early hours of the morning and created panic among locals.

Burglary during festival holidays

According to police, the burglary occurred around 2:30 am in Chengicherla, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Taking advantage of empty houses, the gang broke into 10 locked homes within a short span of time. Residents had left their houses unattended due to Sankranthi holidays, which gave the thieves an easy opportunity.

Police confirmed that the accused looted cash and gold ornaments from multiple houses. The exact value of the stolen property is still being assessed.

Thieves moved with weapons

Investigators revealed that the burglars moved around the colony carrying knives, which raised serious security concerns. Based on the manner of the thefts, police suspect that the gang conducted prior reconnaissance (reccy) before executing the crime. The thieves appeared well-organized and familiar with the locality.

CCTV footage collected from nearby houses clearly shows three suspects wearing monkey caps and masks while entering the colony. The visuals indicate that the gang carefully avoided direct camera exposure, suggesting professional involvement.

Police launch special teams

After receiving complaints from affected residents, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Authorities have formed four special teams to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest. Police are also checking CCTV footage from surrounding areas to track the movement of the suspects before and after the burglary.

Officials believe the gang may belong to an inter-state theft network that targets urban residential colonies during major festivals.

Warning to residents

Police have urged residents to remain alert during festival seasons. They advised homeowners to inform local police stations before leaving town, install functional CCTV cameras, and coordinate with neighbors to monitor suspicious activity.

The Chengicherla burglary incident once again highlights the need for heightened security during festival holidays, especially in residential colonies where many houses remain locked.

Further investigation is underway, and police assured that the accused will be nabbed soon.
