Bomb threat incidents targeting public places and transport systems have increased in recent weeks. On Sunday, a similar scare unfolded when an IndiGo flight travelling from Delhi to West Bengal received a bomb threat, prompting an emergency landing at Lucknow airport.
The flight departed from Delhi with 238 passengers on board and was heading to Bagdogra in West Bengal. While the aircraft was in mid-air, cabin crew members noticed a handwritten message on a tissue paper inside one of the toilets. The note warned of a bomb on the flight. As a result, the crew immediately informed the cockpit and alerted Lucknow Air Traffic Control.
Emergency Response and Passenger Evacuation
Following the alert, the pilots requested an emergency landing without delay. Meanwhile, Lucknow airport authorities activated emergency protocols and positioned fire tenders, ambulances, and security teams on standby. The aircraft landed safely, and officials evacuated all passengers calmly to avoid panic.
Later, security personnel moved the aircraft away from the terminal area. A specialised bomb disposal squad then carried out a detailed inspection of the cabin, cargo section, and luggage compartments. However, the team did not find any explosive material during the search.
Alternate Arrangements and Investigation
After the inspection, officials confirmed that passenger safety was never compromised. Therefore, the airline arranged an alternative flight to help passengers reach their destination. IndiGo also stated that it cooperated fully with security agencies during the operation.
Additionally, authorities launched an investigation to trace the source of the threat message. Officials are reviewing surveillance footage and passenger details. In recent times, aviation authorities have warned that hoax bomb threats disrupt services and create unnecessary fear. As a result, strict action may follow against those responsible.
