A hygiene lapse at the Annavaram Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple in Kakinada district triggered concern among devotees on Friday. Rats were seen moving freely inside prasadam baskets at the official sales counter. Several devotees noticed the scene and questioned the staff on duty. However, the response from employees appeared careless, which further angered visitors.
Soon after, devotees recorded videos and shared them on social media. The visuals spread quickly and drew sharp criticism from the public. As the temple holds deep religious significance, devotees demanded immediate action and stricter hygiene measures at the prasadam counters.
Temple Executive Officer Trinatharao reacted without delay after reviewing the viral footage. He ordered disciplinary action against two employees working near the old mandapam. The EO directed officials to remove them temporarily from duties and submit a detailed report. He also instructed staff to maintain cleanliness at all times and ensure food safety standards.
Meanwhile, temple authorities assured devotees that corrective steps were already underway. Officials said regular inspections would continue to prevent such incidents. Devotees were urged to report issues directly so that the sanctity of the temple remains protected.
