The historic Ganganamma Jatara Mahotsavam was celebrated with devotion and grandeur in Eluru district on Sunday. The seven-yearly festival transformed East Street into a spiritual centre as lakhs of devotees gathered to witness the rituals. People arrived from across Andhra Pradesh, other states, and even abroad, making the event one of the largest religious gatherings in the city.
The jatara focused on the worship of Ganganamma Thalli, Pothuraju Babu, and Mahalakshmamma Thalli. Devotees offered prayers amid drum beats, folk music, and traditional chants. As the day progressed, the streets remained packed with families, relatives, and women’s groups who actively took part in the celebrations.
Meanwhile, devotees from nearby villages joined the festivities in large numbers. Women’s groups and relatives added colour to the event with traditional attire and rituals. As a result, East Street andthe surrounding areas stayed crowded throughout the day.
According to the temple committee, the main goddess procession will begin on Monday morning. In addition, the traditional Korla Bandi procession will continue from morning to evening. Folk artists and ritual performers will take part in the celebrations.
Finally, the procession will conclude at the outskirts of Eluru city by evening. The festival committee confirmed that proper arrangements were made to ensure safety and smooth crowd movement. Overall, the Ganganamma Jatara once again highlighted Eluru’s deep-rooted cultural and devotional traditions.
