A tragic accident claimed the life of a GRP constable at Done Railway Station in Nandyal district while he was on duty. The incident occurred when the constable was surrendering his service weapon after completing duty, triggering shock and grief within the police department and the victim’s family.

According to Guntakal DSP Srinivas Achari, the firearm went off accidentally during the weapon handover process at the GRP office. The bullet caused severe injuries, and the constable collapsed on the spot. Despite immediate attention, he died instantly due to the impact.
Following the incident, senior police officials reached the location and reviewed the circumstances. Preliminary findings ruled out foul play and pointed to an accidental discharge. An internal inquiry was initiated to understand how the safety lapse occurred during the surrender procedure.
Meanwhile, the state government responded swiftly and announced an ex gratia payment of ₹1 lakh for the bereaved family. Officials assured further support and assistance during this difficult time.
The sudden loss of the constable left his family devastated, as he was the sole breadwinner. His death also cast a pall of gloom across the police force, with colleagues expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate mishap.
