For the first time in Andhra Pradesh’s history, the state is celebrating Republic Day in Amaravati. The government completed large-scale preparations for the event, marking a proud moment for the capital region. Importantly, farmers who contributed land for Amaravati see the celebrations as long-awaited recognition. Earlier, Republic Day events were held in Vijayawada, while Independence Day functions rotated across districts. This year, however, the focus has shifted entirely to Amaravati.

Extensive preparations create a festive atmosphere

To host the celebrations, officials developed a special parade ground near the Seed Axis Road, opposite the ministers’ bungalows. The venue covers nearly 22 acres and reflects detailed planning. Separate galleries were arranged for VVIPs, VIPs, and senior officials. Additionally, organisers created a dedicated gallery for Amaravati farmers, treating them as the chief guests. As a result, excitement has spread across nearby villages and urban areas.

Centre moves toward legal status for Amaravati

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced a major development regarding the state capital. According to him, the Centre is preparing to grant legal status to Amaravati. He explained that the Union Cabinet is expected to approve the proposal shortly. Subsequently, the central government plans to introduce a bill during the Parliament Budget Session.

Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the authority to decide the capital rests with the state government. Accordingly, the state selected Amaravati in 2014 and conducted foundation ceremonies the same year. However, political changes later caused delays and uncertainty. Now, the Chief Minister said, the Centre is ready to provide clarity.

MPs asked to press for funds and projects

At the same time, Chandrababu Naidu directed TDP MPs to remain in constant touch with Union ministers and senior officials. He urged them to explore every opportunity to secure funds for Andhra Pradesh. In particular, he asked MPs to push for special packages for North Andhra and Rayalaseema. Moreover, he stressed the importance of prioritising irrigation projects under the Purvodaya scheme, including Polavaram and Nallamala Sagar.

Parliamentary meeting outlines coordinated strategy

Earlier, Naidu chaired a Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party meeting along with Minister Nara Lokesh. During the meeting, they guided MPs on the strategy for the Budget Session. Key issues included the South Coast Railway Zone, implementation of bifurcation promises, education, healthcare, and national highways. Furthermore, the party decided to invite Jana Sena and BJP MPs to the upcoming meetings to strengthen coordination.

Notably, the Chief Minister highlighted that railway lines and national highway projects worth nearly ₹1 lakh crore are currently underway. Therefore, he urged MPs to ensure faster execution. Finally, he advised a balanced and practical approach to irrigation projects to safeguard Andhra Pradesh’s long-term interests.
