A tense situation unfolded in Anantapur district when TDP activist Lakshmi Narayana climbed a BSNL cell tower at Kothacheruvu and staged a protest. He alleged that police delayed action in a dispute involving gold and cash meant for his daughter and son-in-law. According to him, repeated requests for intervention did not yield results, prompting him to take the extreme step of drawing attention to the issue.
Lakshmi Narayana climbed the tower and threatened to jump, creating panic among family members and residents. Relatives expressed deep concern over his safety and appealed for immediate police action. The protest quickly attracted attention in the area, with people gathering near the tower as the situation escalated.
Police officials rushed to the spot and began efforts to persuade him to come down safely. Officers maintained constant communication with the protester to calm him. Meanwhile, police teams secured the area to prevent any untoward incident.
Circle Inspector Maruthi Shankar assured Lakshmi Narayana that authorities would resolve the issue without delay if he came down from the tower. He promised immediate steps to address the complaint and restore confidence. Following the assurance, police continued negotiations, aiming to end the protest peacefully and ensure the activist’s safety.
