Farmers from Jujjuru village in Nandigama mandal of NTR district staged a strong protest in front of the Tahsildar’s office, opposing the proposed land acquisition for the Outer Ring Road (ORR). They alleged that the government plans to take away fertile agricultural lands that produce two crops every year. Therefore, the farmers demanded the immediate cancellation of the ORR notification, stating that their livelihoods are at serious risk due to the project.
Moreover, the farmers raised slogans urging officials not to acquire their lands forcibly. They insisted that authorities must strictly implement the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. According to them, officials initially promised to acquire only up to 70 meters. However, they now claim the width has increased to nearly 250 meters, which has caused widespread anger among the farming community.
Meanwhile, the protesters highlighted the sharp difference between government compensation and the actual market value. They stated that one acre of land is currently worth crores in the open market. In contrast, the government rate is nearly four times lower, which they say is unacceptable. As a result, the farmers demanded compensation at least double the prevailing market price.
In addition, the farmers accused the government of moving forward without proper communication. They alleged that officials neither conducted awareness meetings nor issued prior notices before initiating the acquisition process. Because of this lack of transparency, trust between farmers and authorities has weakened further.
Later, the farmers submitted a formal petition to Deputy Tahsildar Venkat, urging immediate intervention. They warned that protests would intensify if the government ignored their demands. For now, the situation remains tense, as farmers continue to seek justice and fair compensation for their fertile lands.
