A herd of elephants caused widespread destruction in Yallampalli village of Chandragiri mandal after entering the area late at night. The animals moved through farmlands and damaged standing crops, fencing, and farm infrastructure, leaving farmers shocked and distressed by morning.

Herd Enters Village After Midnight

Villagers said the herd entered Yallampalli after midnight. The group included seven adult elephants and three calves. Loud trumpeting sounds woke residents, creating panic across the village. Many people rushed out of their homes but stayed at a safe distance due to fear.

Farmlands and Equipment Suffer Heavy Damage

The elephants trampled paddy fields and destroyed grass stacks stored by farmers. They also damaged fencing poles and water pipelines used for irrigation. Several acres of cultivated land suffered losses, affecting the livelihoods of local farmers who depend entirely on agriculture.

Farmers said the damage wiped out months of hard work within hours.

Suspected Movement From Nearby Forest Areas

Locals believe the elephants moved toward Yallampalli from Pulicherla mandal in the Punganur constituency. The area lies close to forest routes often used by wild animals during seasonal movement. Repeated elephant crossings have raised safety concerns among residents.

Villagers Alert Forest Officials

Soon after the incident, villagers informed forest department officials and requested immediate action. They urged authorities to monitor elephant movement and take steps to prevent further damage. Farmers also appealed for compensation and long-term measures to protect crops and homes.

The incident once again highlights the growing challenge of human-wildlife conflict in border villages, where farmers continue to face losses due to elephant intrusions.
