Police arrested former minister Ambati Rambabu late on Saturday night after his obscene remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu triggered widespread protests and violence in Guntur. Authorities detained him at Nallapadu Police Station overnight and planned to take him to Guntur Government General Hospital for medical examination today before producing him in court.
The arrest followed a major political flare-up linked to a flex banner controversy in Guntur. During the dispute, Ambati Rambabu made highly offensive comments targeting the Chief Minister. His remarks sparked anger across the state, with TDP and alliance party cadres reacting sharply.
TDP Protest Turns Violent in Guntur
TDP leaders and activists surrounded Ambati Rambabu’s residence in Navabharat Nagar, Guntur, and staged protests for over six hours. Demonstrators hurled stones at the house, damaged vehicles parked nearby, and raised slogans demanding accountability. Women activists joined the protest, holding slippers and brooms as a mark of strong dissent.
The prolonged agitation created panic in the locality and severely disrupted traffic movement. Residents remained indoors as the situation grew tense with every passing hour.
Police Intervene Amid High Tension
Police deployed additional forces and attempted to control the crowd as tempers continued to rise. After several attempts to disperse the protesters failed, officers forcefully cleared the area to prevent further damage. Amid intense tension, police arrested Ambati Rambabu and shifted him to Nallapadu Police Station under tight security.
Officials stated that the arrest aimed to restore law and order and prevent the situation from spiralling further out of control.
Medical Examination and Court Production Today
Police confirmed that Ambati Rambabu would undergo medical tests at Guntur Government General Hospital today. After completing the formalities, the authorities will present him before the court as part of the legal process.
