The Tamil film industry has once again come under scrutiny following a major drug bust in Chennai. Police uncovered a drug network during a special operation conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit and arrested eight people, including Kollywood actress Anju Krishna and Tamil co-director Vincy Nivetha.
The arrests have triggered fresh concern within the industry and intensified the focus on drug-related activities linked to film circles.
Police Conduct Raids in Valasaravakkam
Police carried out coordinated raids in Chennai’s Valasaravakkam area and detained the suspects. Officers took Anju Krishna and Vincy Nivetha into custody along with several others connected to the network.
The arrested individuals include Karthik Raju, Yashwanth, Sriram, Alvibinsha, and Venkatesh Kumar. Investigators believe the group played different roles within the drug supply chain.
Drugs and Equipment Seized
During the raids, police seized a significant quantity of narcotic substances. Officers recovered six grams of methamphetamine, seven grams of OG ganja, and 15 grams of regular ganja from the accused.
The police also seized LSD stamps and smoking bongs from the locations. In addition, officers confiscated nine mobile phones and a car used by the suspects.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
Police produced all eight accused before a magistrate after completing preliminary questioning. The court remanded them to judicial custody as investigations continued.
Officials confirmed that teams are now tracking the wider drug supply network linked to the case. Police stated that further arrests could follow as they examine digital evidence and contact records seized during the operation.
