Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a packed two-day visit to Malaysia with wide-ranging talks aimed at strengthening India-Malaysia ties across strategic and economic sectors. On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya, where the two leaders held detailed discussions on trade, investment, defence, and regional security.

The meeting resulted in multiple agreements that signal a fresh push in bilateral cooperation. India and Malaysia agreed to work closely in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and digital technologies. At the same time, both sides decided to expand collaboration in semiconductors, healthcare, food security, and defence manufacturing. These steps, leaders said, would help both economies stay resilient and competitive in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Strong Stand on Terrorism and Security Cooperation

During the joint interaction, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s firm position on terrorism. He said India’s message to the world remains clear and consistent, stressing that there can be no double standards and no compromise in fighting terror. Both leaders agreed to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation, enhance intelligence sharing, and improve maritime security coordination.

Modi also underlined the need to make defence cooperation more comprehensive. He said India and Malaysia would work together to deepen defence ties, especially in areas related to regional stability and shared security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.

Focus on Indo-Pacific Growth and Stability

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of the Indo-Pacific region, calling it a major engine of global growth and trade. He said India remains committed to development, peace, and stability across the region, working closely with ASEAN nations, including Malaysia. Both leaders expressed a shared vision of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Earlier in the day, Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally received him, reflecting the warmth in bilateral relations. Modi had arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and was given a grand red-carpet reception at the airport.

Historic Ties and Expanding Partnership

Speaking after the talks, Modi described India and Malaysia as maritime neighbours with centuries-old cultural and people-to-people ties. He noted that Malaysia is home to one of the largest populations of Indian origin in the world, which adds depth to the relationship. Shared democratic values and cultural heritage, he said, continue to bind the two countries closely.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim echoed similar sentiments. He said India and Malaysia are steadily expanding cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, and defence. He also praised India’s recent rise on the global economic and trade front, calling it impressive and impactful.

With fresh agreements and a clear strategic roadmap, Modi’s Malaysia visit is expected to give new momentum to India–Malaysia relations, especially in technology, security, and regional cooperation.
