The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced the Smart Family Card (SFC) to make government services and welfare schemes more accessible to citizens. This initiative aims to streamline access for families across the state while integrating multiple programs into a single, easy-to-use card.
Distribution and Features of the Smart Family Card
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to distribute Smart Family Cards to approximately 1.4 crore families by June. Each card includes a QR code and stores 24 types of family-related information, allowing families to access various government schemes from a single platform. Consequently, citizens no longer need to carry multiple documents for welfare services.
Population Management and Senior Citizen Focus
In addition, the government plans to introduce a new population management policy by March. This is in response to the growing elderly population in the state. Moreover, officials want to ensure that older citizens continue to participate actively in society, fostering a positive mindset that people above 60 can remain productive.
Health and Nutrition Initiatives
The Smart Family Card also complements several health and nutrition programs:
Sanjeevani Project: By July, the government aims to screen 66 lakh high-risk individuals for early detection of health issues.
Nutrition Programs: Through Anganwadis and the midday meal scheme, the focus is on providing high-quality nutrition to pregnant women and children.
Encouraging Normal Births: Officials are taking steps to reduce cesarean deliveries and promote natural childbirths across hospitals.
AIDS-Free State Goal: By next year, Andhra Pradesh aims to become an AIDS-free state, ensuring better public health outcomes.
Bringing Welfare Closer to Citizens
Overall, the Smart Family Card represents a major step toward digital governance. By connecting families to multiple welfare schemes, health programs, and social initiatives through one card, Andhra Pradesh is simplifying access while promoting better planning, transparency, and citizen engagement.
