Tata Motors has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. The plant, operated by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) Ltd., officially started on February 9, 2026. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran attended the opening ceremony. The company invested ₹9,000 crores to build this advanced facility.
High Production Capacity for Local and Global Markets
The Panapakkam plant will produce Tata passenger vehicles and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) models for both domestic and international customers. The company aims to reach 2.5 lakh vehicles annually within five to seven years. At the inauguration, Tata Motors showcased a locally made Range Rover Evoque. This demonstration highlights the company’s focus on quality and advanced technology.
Economic Boost and Job Creation
The new facility will create approximately 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. Chief Minister Stalin praised Tata Motors for its long-standing partnership with Tamil Nadu. He assured continued government support for industries that generate employment and boost the local economy.
Market Outlook and Pricing
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh Chandra warned that vehicle prices might increase soon due to rising raw material costs. However, the new plant will strengthen production, support growing demand, and expand India’s automotive presence globally.
