The Central Government has strengthened support for poor households by expanding the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. Through this scheme, eligible women receive a free LPG gas connection, along with a stove and the first cylinder at no cost. The main aim is to improve women’s health and make clean cooking fuel accessible to every home.
By reducing dependence on firewood and traditional fuels, the scheme helps women avoid smoke-related health problems. At the same time, it eases the daily burden of cooking in low-income households.
Key Benefits Offered Under Ujjwala Yojana 2.0
Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive more than just a gas connection. New applicants get a free LPG stove and cylinder at the time of connection. In addition, the government provides a ₹300 subsidy on every refill, which is directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account.
This subsidy applies to up to 12 cylinders per year, offering continued financial relief. As a result, families can switch to clean fuel without worrying about rising costs.
Who Is Eligible for the Scheme?
To qualify for PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, applicants must meet certain conditions. The applicant must be a woman aged 18 years or above. Importantly, her household should not have any existing LPG connection.
Income limits also apply. Families in rural areas must have an annual income of less than ₹1 lakh, while urban families should earn below ₹2 lakh per year. However, income taxpayers are not eligible for this scheme.
Documents Required for Application
Applicants need to keep a few basic documents ready. These include an Aadhaar card, a ration card, bank account details, a passport-size photograph, and a mobile number. Having these documents ensures a smooth verification process.
How to Apply for a Free Gas Connection
Women interested in the scheme can apply online through the official website www.pmuy.gov.in. The process is simple and user-friendly. Alternatively, those who cannot apply online can visit their nearest LPG gas agency with the required documents.
After successful document verification, the gas connection will be approved and issued. Overall, PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 continues to play a key role in empowering women and improving living standards across the country.
