The municipal elections are currently underway across the state, with voters heading to polling stations to cast their ballots. Election officials reported that by 3:00 PM, 62.09% of voters had already exercised their franchise. Polling will continue until 5:00 PM, and those still in the queue at the closing time will be allowed to vote.

Despite the orderly voting process, tensions were reported at several polling stations. Party leaders from both the Congress and BRS exchanged accusations, creating isolated instances of unrest. Police quickly intervened to manage the situation, ensuring that the voting process remained smooth and free from any untoward incidents.

To maintain law and order, authorities deployed security personnel at all polling centres. The Election Commission also set up webcasting arrangements inside and outside polling stations to monitor proceedings in real-time and maintain transparency.

Once voting concludes, officials will begin vote counting on February 13, with results closely watched by political parties and the public alike. Following this, indirect elections for mayors, deputy mayors, municipal chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons will take place on February 16.

The Election Commission emphasised the importance of a peaceful and fair polling process, urging all parties to respect democratic procedures. With security arrangements and monitoring in place, authorities are confident that elections will proceed smoothly despite isolated tensions.
