A chlorine gas leak in Ampavalli village of Balijipeta mandal, Parvathipuram Manyam district, triggered panic on Sunday afternoon. District authorities acted swiftly after seven villagers fell ill due to gas exposure. Officials immediately shifted the affected individuals to a nearby hospital and ensured prompt medical treatment.

District Collector Dr N. Prabhakar Reddy confirmed that all seven victims are now stable. He urged residents not to panic and assured them that the administration has brought the situation under control.

Leak Traced to Old Chlorine Cylinders

Officials identified the source of the leak at a rural water supply pump house located near the village. Authorities had stored old chlorine cylinders at the facility, and one of them began leaking gas. The administration quickly sealed the affected area and initiated safety measures to prevent further spread.

The pump house stands about 10 meters away from residential homes. As a result, several villagers inhaled the gas before officials contained the leak.

Villagers Report Breathing Issues

Residents living close to the pump house reported a strong gas odour. Soon after, they experienced symptoms such as breathlessness, dizziness, throat irritation, and mild coughing. Local health teams responded immediately and transported the affected individuals for medical care.

Doctors monitored the patients closely and provided necessary treatment. According to officials, none of the cases turned critical.

Administration Issues Advisory

The district administration continues to monitor the area to avoid any recurrence. Officials advised villagers to remain calm and follow safety instructions. They also initiated steps to safely dispose of old chlorine cylinders and review storage protocols at rural water supply units.

Authorities emphasised that the situation remains fully under control. With timely intervention and coordinated action, the administration prevented the incident from escalating into a major health emergency.
