Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh is set to expand its primary healthcare infrastructure with the construction of 100 new Primary Health Centre (PHC) buildings at a cost of ₹194 crore, Health Minister Sri Satyakumar Yadav announced in the Assembly on Tuesday. This move aims to strengthen medical services, especially for rural and underserved communities.
Repairs and Upgrades to Existing PHCs
The state already has 1,144 functioning PHCs with dedicated buildings. In addition, the government has undertaken full repairs of 976 existing PHC facilities. Minister Yadav emphasised that these measures will ensure more reliable healthcare services for the rural poor.
Expanding Medical Staff Across the State
To boost medical care access, the government recently recruited 2,500 doctors and paramedical staff across rural and urban centres. Minister Yadav confirmed that another 110 doctors will be appointed soon. This step will further improve the reach and quality of healthcare services across both rural PHCs and 560 urban Primary Health Units (UPHCs).
Launch of ‘Sanjeevani’ for Preventive Care
The Chief Minister, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, introduced the ‘Sanjeevani’ program to promote preventive healthcare through individual electronic health records. The government partnered with Tata MD and the Gates Foundation for staff recruitment and technology transformation. As part of the initiative, staff received comprehensive training to implement the program efficiently.
New Dialysis Centres and Maternal Health Improvements
Minister Yadav also announced the approval of 19 new dialysis centres in the state. PHCs and Community Health Centres (CHCs) with available infrastructure now have trained doctors and nursing staff to handle deliveries. Ultrasound and TIFA scans are available in 30-bed CHCs, improving maternal and child healthcare.
Digital Health Records for Every Citizen
In line with digital healthcare initiatives, the state is creating unique IDs under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). These digital IDs will help maintain electronic health records for all patients, ensuring long-term health tracking and better preventive care.
Government Commitment to Healthcare Access
Minister Yadav emphasised that these reforms reflect the government’s commitment to making healthcare services more accessible, modern, and efficient for all citizens. With upgraded PHCs, new buildings, additional staff, dialysis centres, and digital systems, Andhra Pradesh aims to provide comprehensive healthcare solutions across the state.
