Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh will fill vacancies in government junior colleges on a strategic, war-footing basis, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh announced. He spoke in the Legislative Assembly while responding to MLA A. Shivarami Reddy’s question about junior colleges in Anantapur district.

Nine Junior Colleges Approved in Anantapur

The government approved nine junior colleges across united Anantapur district. It sanctioned teaching staff posts in all nine colleges. Additionally, it approved non-teaching staff posts in five colleges.

Collecting Accurate Data

Minister Lokesh explained that when he assumed office, the Education Department lacked proper data. Officials did not know how many students studied in government schools or junior colleges. They also did not track which teachers were posted where. Therefore, he spent 20 months gathering and verifying information.

He added that during his tenure in Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, comprehensive data were always available. However, under the previous YSRCP government, the Education Department remained neglected.

Integrated Approach to Strengthen Government Colleges

The minister emphasised that the government follows an integrated approach. Even when approving government or junior colleges, the focus remains on strengthening government colleges over private institutions.

To achieve this, the government will:

  • Recruit required teaching and non-teaching staff immediately

  • Set up modern laboratories for practical learning

  • Provide competitive exam materials to students

  • Reintroduce the midday meal scheme for intermediate students

  • Distribute textbooks free of cost

Commitment to War-Footing Recruitment

Lokesh stated that the government will take all necessary measures to fill junior college vacancies quickly and efficiently. He assured that proper staffing, infrastructure, and student support will enhance the quality of education in government colleges across the state.
