Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director (MD) Prakhar Jain stated that a surface circulation persists over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. Due to this, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by Tuesday.
This system is expected to move west-northwest and intensify into a depression over the South Central and West Central Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
The APSDMA has forecast heavy rainfall in isolated areas across the State over the next four days. It urges citizens to stay alert and advises farmers to take necessary precautions in their agricultural activities. It also warns people against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and lightning.
The State is likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts on Monday. Light to moderate rainfall with lightning is expected in scattered areas of other districts. On Tuesday, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas of West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts. Moreover, light to moderate rainfall with lightning is expected in scattered areas of other districts.
On Wednesday, parts of Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupati districts will likely receive heavy rainfall. The APSDMA forecasts moderate to heavy rain in isolated areas of Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Kadapa, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts. The remaining districts may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning.
As of Sunday evening, Merakamudidam in Vizianagaram district recorded 43.7 mm of rainfall, followed by Galiveedu in Annamayya district with 43.2 mm, Gollapadu in Vizianagaram with 43 mm, and Kakarapadu in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district with 39.2 mm.
