Five members of a family lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Chittoor district after their car rammed into a lorry on the Bengaluru–Chennai National Highway. The accident occurred near YSR Junction at Dandapalli Cross in Gangavaram mandal while the family was travelling from Bengaluru to Tirupati for darshan. All five victims died on the spot, police confirmed.
According to officials, the family had started from Rajajinagar in Bengaluru and was heading towards Tirumala for a temple visit. However, tragedy struck when their car crashed into a lorry moving ahead of them. The impact was severe and left the vehicle badly damaged.
Victims Identified
Police identified the deceased as Mohan Das (71), Nagaraja Rao (61), Kusuma (61), Jayanthi (59), and Pooja (33). All of them belonged to the same family. The sudden loss has left relatives and friends in deep shock.
Accident on National Highway
The crash took place on the busy Bengaluru–Chennai highway stretch near YSR Junction. Locals alerted the police soon after the accident. Emergency teams rushed to the spot, but doctors declared all five dead due to the severity of injuries.
Police Begin Investigation
Gangavaram Circle Inspector Ram Bhupal registered a case and started an investigation. Police are examining whether overspeeding or driver error led to the collision. They are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby points to determine the exact sequence of events.
The bodies were shifted for post-mortem, and further legal procedures are underway. Authorities urged motorists to remain cautious, especially on highway stretches where heavy vehicles frequently operate.
