Recent reports about the deportation of Indians from the United States have sparked nationwide debate. However, official data shows that Saudi Arabia, not the US, deported the highest number of Indians in 2025.
According to a report submitted to the Rajya Sabha by the Ministry of External Affairs, as many as 24,600 Indians were deported from 81 countries this year. The data highlights a sharp rise in deportations from Gulf and Southeast Asian nations.
Saudi Arabia Tops the List
Saudi Arabia deported over 11,000 Indians, the highest among all countries. Most deportations occurred due to visa overstays and working without valid permits.
United States Sees Sharp Increase
The United States deported around 3,800 Indians in 2025. These include private employees and students. Officials noted that this is the highest number of deportations from the US in the last five years, with many cases linked to Washington DC.
Myanmar, Malaysia, and UAE Follow
Myanmar repatriated 1,591 Indians, many of them reportedly Telugu-speaking individuals involved in cybercrime cases. Malaysia deported 1,483, while the UAE sent back 1,469 Indians.
Students Also Affected
Several countries deported Indian students this year. The UK deported 170 students, Australia 114, Russia 82, and the US 45. Authorities cited visa violations and documentation issues as key reasons.
Gulf Crackdown and US Immigration Drive
Gulf nations intensified checks on illegal employment, leading to mass deportations. Meanwhile, the US stepped up action against illegal immigration following Donald Trump’s return to power. Deportations took place using special military aircraft, triggering controversy over the treatment of migrants.
