The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved another major milestone on Wednesday. It successfully launched the BlueBird 6 communication satellite using its most powerful rocket, LVM3-M6, also known as Bahubali. The launch took place at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
This mission stands as one of the biggest commercial achievements in India’s space history.
Successful Liftoff and Precise Orbit Placement
The 43.5-metre-tall LVM3 rocket lifted off from the second launch pad at 8:55 am. Within 15 minutes, ISRO placed the satellite into a 520-kilometre orbit. The mission met all its planned goals without any issues.
Weighing 6,100 kilograms, BlueBird 6 became the heaviest commercial satellite launched from India.
Direct Internet from Space to Smartphones
US-based AST SpaceMobile developed the BlueBird 6 satellite. Its key feature is direct mobile connectivity. The satellite can provide 4G and 5G internet services straight to regular smartphones. As a result, users will not need special equipment.
This technology can help improve internet access in remote and rural areas worldwide.
Launch Delay Avoids Potential Space Hazard
Initially, ISRO planned the launch for 8:54 am. However, scientists noticed a possible collision risk from space debris or nearby satellites. Therefore, the team paused the countdown for 90 seconds.
After recalculating the safe launch window, ISRO resumed the countdown. The rocket then lifted off smoothly at 8:55:30 am, avoiding any danger.
ISRO Chairman Praises Mission Team
After the successful launch, ISRO Chairman Dr V. Narayanan praised the mission team. He said the LVM3 rocket once again proved its strong performance record. He also noted that the rocket ranks among the world’s best heavy-lift launch vehicles.

Importantly, this mission marks ISRO’s third full-scale commercial launch. Moreover, it strengthens India’s reputation as a reliable and cost-effective launch partner. With this success, ISRO continues to expand its role in the global space industry.
