The government is preparing a new toll collection system that will end long waits at toll plazas. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that motorists will not need to stop at toll gates once the new technology starts. He explained this while answering questions in the Lok Sabha.

The Centre is already testing this system at ten locations. Gadkari said the government will roll it out across the country within a year. He added that India is working on 4,500 highway projects worth nearly ₹10 lakh crore, and the new toll method will support faster travel on these routes.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) shared more details about the system. NPCI developed the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme to collect toll fees without stopping vehicles. The system still uses FASTag, but it deducts the fee from the user’s bank account automatically when the vehicle passes the toll point. The user does not need to halt or slow down.

This new model will reduce congestion, save fuel, and give commuters a smoother highway experience.
