The week-long deadlock in the Lok Sabha has finally ended. The House will hold a crucial debate today on electoral reforms and the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the voter list. The government and the Opposition reached an agreement after several rounds of talks.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chaired an all-party meeting and approved the discussion. The government agreed to allow a full debate on electoral reforms. The Opposition has been demanding this since the Winter Session began on December 1.

Opposition’s Charge Against the Government

Opposition leaders allege that the government is misusing the voter list revision process. They claim officials removed the names of marginalized groups in the name of SSR. Their campaign — “Stop SIR, Stop Vote Stealing” — has grown louder in Parliament.

Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi held protests inside and outside Parliament. They carried placards and demanded transparency in the revision process.

Rahul Gandhi to Start the Discussion

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, will open the debate today in the Lok Sabha. A Union Minister will reply to the discussion on Wednesday and explain the government’s stand.

Government Confirms Schedule

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the debate schedule on X. The session will also include events marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.

Today’s debate is likely to draw national attention as both sides prepare to argue over voter rights and electoral transparency.
