The Telangana Assembly session began on Monday with key political developments. First, the House passed condolence resolutions for former MLAs Ramreddy Damodar Reddy and Konda Laxma Reddy. Members across parties paid tributes and observed silence.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), ministers, and MLAs attended the proceedings. During the session, CM Revanth Reddy walked up to KCR and greeted him. He enquired about KCR’s health and spoke with him briefly inside the House.
Meanwhile, several senior leaders also met KCR. Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Adluri Laxman Kumar, and Seethakka greeted him. MLA Naveen Yadav also met and felicitated KCR. Shortly after the condolence resolutions ended, KCR exited the Assembly.
Afterwards, attention shifted to key policy matters. The government plans to introduce proposals related to the merger of municipalities located within the Outer Ring Road into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. This move aims to improve urban administration.
In addition, the Assembly will discuss increasing the number of GHMC wards from 150 to 300. Officials cite the expansion of city limits as the main reason for this proposal. At the same time, the government will consider removing the two-child norm in local body elections.
Furthermore, ministers will table amendments to the Telangana GST Act. The House will also debate employee rationalisation and other administrative reforms. These measures seek to address long-pending governance issues.
Later in the day, the Assembly adjourned. Following this, the Business Advisory Committee meeting was scheduled. The committee will decide the duration of the Assembly and Legislative Council sessions. It will also finalise the agenda for the coming days.
Overall, the first day reflected a mix of solemn remembrance and active legislative planning. The session signalled a focused approach to governance and policy reforms.
