A serious security lapse at the Tirupati Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple has raised concerns among devotees and officials. The incident occurred late at night, soon after the completion of ekaanta seva, a time when strict security is usually in place. Despite this, a man managed to enter the temple premises and create panic.
Intruder Enters Temple After Night Service
Officials said the accused entered the temple under the influence of alcohol. He jumped over the temple wall before vigilance staff could notice him. Soon after entering, he moved freely inside the premises. This incident highlighted major gaps in night-time security at the historic shrine.
The man then climbed the gopuram located inside the main gate. Shockingly, he reached the top and tried to pull out the kalashas. Temple staff and devotees watched in fear as the situation escalated. Authorities immediately alerted the police and fire department to prevent further damage.
Three-Hour Rescue Operation
Police identified the accused as Tirupati, a resident of Kurmawada Peddamalla Reddy Colony in Nizamabad district. Officials said the man acted aggressively and refused to come down on his own. Due to the height and risk involved, the rescue required careful planning.
The operation continued for nearly three hours. Fire personnel placed ladders against the gopuram and climbed cautiously. Meanwhile, police teams coordinated from below to ensure safety. Finally, officials managed to bring the man down and arrested him. No injuries were reported, and the temple structure remained safe.
Police Order Detailed Probe
East DSP Bhaktavatsalam said police have launched a detailed investigation. He stated that officials will examine how the accused entered the temple despite security arrangements. Police will also review CCTV footage and staff deployment.
The incident has triggered fresh demands for stronger security at major temples. Devotees urged authorities to improve surveillance and prevent such breaches in the future.
