A tragic fire accident shocked Vizianagaram district on Saturday morning. The incident occurred in K. Seethapuram village of Tellam mandal and claimed the life of an elderly woman.
The victim, Papamma, lived alone in a thatched hut. Due to severe cold, she lit a small fire inside her home to keep warm. Sparks from the fire fell on nearby dry grass and triggered the blaze.
The flames spread rapidly and engulfed the hut within minutes. The fire soon reached nearby houses. In total, ten Puri huts were reduced to ashes.
Villagers rushed to the spot and tried to control the fire. However, the flames spread too quickly. They immediately informed the fire department.
Firefighters reached the village and brought the blaze under control. By then, Papamma had already lost her life. The fire left ten families homeless and destroyed all their belongings.
The incident has left the village in deep mourning. Officials urged residents to remain cautious while using firewood during winter, especially in thatched houses.
