HRD, IT, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh unveiled an ambitious plan to construct a world-class State Library in Amaravati, backed by a ₹150 crore investment. Designed to meet global standards, the facility will serve as a flagship institution in Andhra Pradesh’s evolving library ecosystem.
During the Assembly session, Lokesh responded to questions from MLAs Mandali Buddha Prasad, Palle Sindhura Reddy, and Ganababu, sharing the government’s broader vision to revamp public libraries throughout the State.
The Central Library in Amaravati is slated for completion within two years. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to modernize existing libraries and safeguard valuable manuscripts across Andhra Pradesh.
Shobha Developers has committed ₹100 crore to the initiative, with further contributions expected from donors to support the modernization drive.
A ₹20 crore model library is currently under construction in Visakhapatnam, while another facility in Mangalagiri is nearing its final stages and is scheduled for inauguration in October.
The government aims to set up model libraries in each of the 175 Assembly constituencies and double the number of district libraries from 13 to 26, aligning with the updated administrative framework. The proposal is presently under evaluation by the Finance Department.
To foster a culture of reading among children, the state will introduce targeted literacy programmes over the next six months. Community outreach efforts have already commenced to build momentum around the initiative.
